BACKGROUND

Test - The Centre for Youth Development (CYD) was established in 1995 by concerned youth and students in the community of Kagiso in the West Rand.  The desire to establish such an institution was fueled by a need to have a facility that will be able to channel the energies of students and youth towards positive development by pro-actively addressing the educational, financial and social challenges.

The CYD is a non-profitable organization, which is registered as a section 21 company with the register of companies; registration number is 2001/008607/08 and is also registered as an non-profitable organization with the department of Social Development 005-464NPO.  It is focused on providing Training and Development Services, Counseling Services, Computer skills Services, Research Services and fighting the rate of unemployment by creating the sustainable Business Development Projects (Youth Enterprises) as part of job creation and these are: Cleaning Services, Catering Services, Gardening and Landscaping Services, Recycling and Buyback Centre and Youth Tours.

OBJECTIVES

Our Strategic Objectives remain:

  • To train and develop entrepreneurial skills among students and youth to participate in the mainstream economy.
  • To inculcate a spirit of pro-activeness in dealing with problems and challenges facing the youth.
  • To make available career guidance, leadership development and socio-economic awareness programmes to young people.
  • To protect and enhance the interest of students and youth at whatever the cost.
  • The provision of life skills to students and youth remain our priority
